How Does Entresto Work for Heart Failure?

How Does Entresto Work for Heart Failure?

Entresto contains two medications, sacubitril and valsartan, that help the heart pump blood more effectively and reduce strain on the cardiovascular system.

  • Sacubitril, a neprilysin inhibitor, increases beneficial peptides like ANP and BNP that relax blood vessels and remove excess sodium and fluid, helping the heart work more efficiently.
  • Meanwhile, valsartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), blocks angiotensin II, a hormone that tightens blood vessels and raises heart workload.
  • This combined action helps lower blood pressure, reduce fluid buildup, and help prevent heart failure complications, such as hospitalization and heart-related death.
